060 R&D – Dropbox Strategy Revisted | Outsourcing

We’re getting to a point where we can fully implement our Dropbox file sharing strategy. Dice is getting set up and we are almost ready. In the podcast, we discuss sharing large audio files over the web. The process of remote collaboration is key for Dice and myself since we live 3,000 miles apart.

Also, we talk about our own limits and when is the right time to start outsourcing.

059 R&D – @rollzanddice | Twitter and YouTube Strategies | Guide To Beat Making Finished

We’re on Twitter @rollzanddice. This is the account that we post updates related to our On Air Fridays@9 live show. For example, last week, we cancelled our show last minute and were concerned about letting folks know that the show was cancelled. This is what our Twitter is used for. If you are a HARDCORE R&D fan, follow us on Twitter @rollzanddice and look for updates Fridays @ 9 PM EST!

We are also developing our YouTube channel to be a more valuable resource. Instead of hosting all of our hour-long conversations, we will extract the best info, condense it to our podcast on iTunes, or re-upload the potent video snippet content to YouTube. Look for this stuff in the coming weeks.

Additionally, we finished writing The Rollz and Dice Guide to Beat Making. This is a 15 page eBook and blogpost that breaks down the process of beat making. Check it out and let us know what you think. It can be downloaded here: www.rollzanddice.com/beatmaking

Archiving

Having a proper archiving strategy is important for accessing all of your files whenever you need them. This video shows a technique I use to while storing my data. It will help in the long run, believe me!

058 R&D – Grounding Your Signal | Rice Krispies? | Who Are Rollz & Dice?

Ground Your Signal

ALERT! You may be susceptible to audio interference. Make sure you are grounding your audio signal! Otherwise, your music is gonna sound like crap! Make sure your noise floor is set at a reasonable level. Then, if you continue to hearing some weird interference, you gotta investigate. Trace the chord back to the wall checking every cable in your signal flow. You will find the culprit, I promise you.

Rice Krispies?

Rice Krispies are a healthy part of your balanced diet. Just kidding, stick with vegetables… Rice Krispies are the pops and clicks you hear when you’re listening to your dad’s old vinyl records. *crackle crackle*.

Vinyl records are a big part of the Rollz and Dice sound. *pop pop*.

Who Are Rollz & Dice

Who are you? Better yet, who are we? Listen here:

057- Metallica Or Van Halen? | Edible Duet | Noise Floor Explained | Would Rock And Roll Be Different If Jimi Hendrix Didn’t Die So Young?

Who was the bigger band – Van Halen or Metallica? Who was more influential? How would rock and roll be different if Jimi didn’t die so young? We discuss in this episode. Also, I share a song from an awesome New Hampshire-based (non-metal) band called Edible Duet. They are currently in the studio working on the full album, but we’ve got a sneak peak of one of the mixes here in the episode.

Finally, for the audio geeks, we explain the concept of noise floor in recorded audio. Give a listen and please subscribe! Thanks!

055 R&D – The Best Way To Broadcast Live | Akai MPC Talk | Hip Hop Wives Tales

The best way to podcast/live-stream over the internet is via a hardwire connection through an ethernet cable. If you want to get into live streaming on Google Hangouts with any kind of quality standard, you will want to make sure you have a hardwire connection on a computer. This way, you won’t experience as many dropouts. Also, you expand your ability to connect external devices like audio interfaces and microphones while using a computer.

In this episode, we go over the best practices for connecting over the internet and then we get into Akai MPC talk. Here is a picture of an MPC Sound Library Card (mentioned in the episode):

Finally, we talk about some hip hop wive’s tales when it comes to licensing and law suits at the highest level of the hip hop world.

054 R&D – The Machine | The Connection | Beat Making Guide Update | Coming Clean With Greyface

Right now, we’re in a situation where we’re beefin’ up Dice’s home studio. Since we write and record music and communicate primarily over the internet, it’s important that our CPUs are robust and our internet connections are solid. In this episode, we talk about our latest technical enhancements and shortcomings. It’s funny because we actually experience some dropouts and technical difficulties during the recording of the episode as we address our internet connection and strive to better our show.

After that, we disclose our upcoming to-do list regarding The Rollz and Dice Guide To Beat Making and finally, we crack some jokes with our pal Greyface.

053 R&D – Overcoming Obstacles | Dice Shares Music | eBook Feedback | Gilbert

We’re back at it after a week off! We get into a conversation about a couple beats that Dice has made and what obstacles he has overcome with the Akai MPC 1000.

After we recorded episode 52, I sent a copy of the Rollz and Dice Guide To Beat Making to Dice. In this episode, Dice tells me how he feels about it and finally, Gilbert Gottfried tells us what he thinks of all of this!

052 R&D – Monthly Stats | Podcast Versus Live Show | Norm | Guide To Beat Making

Episode fifty two for me and you. Get into the groove.

This week, we jam on monthly stats, question the difference between our live show versus our podcast, and spill the beans on The Rollz and Dice Guide To Beat Making.

Finally, Norm MacDonald calls in and gives us one of his jokes. Listen through the end… It’s pretty funny…
